Premature Ovary Failure?

by dr. Pande Made Doddy Haryadi, S.Ked.

Premature Ovary Failure (or ovarian premature failure) is a hormonal disease that causes infertility and involves 1-5% of women under the age of 40. Mothers affected by POF in addition to having difficulty having children, usually also experience other complaints such as symptoms of not menstruating, bone loss, the body’s immunity attacks itself, heart attacks, and even psychological stress. [1] This ovarian failure disrupts the process of maturation of the mother’s eggs which is the main cause of the mother’s difficulty having children. This ovarian failure is closely associated with genetic disorders, self-attacking immune system, chemotherapy, and more.[2,3]

Infertility itself is a fertility disorder characterized by the failure to get pregnant in more than 12 months even though the couple has had regular unprotected intercourse.[4]

WHAT’S WITH OVARIAN FAILURE?

The causes of ovarian failure are still complex and complicated. It could be influenced by abnormal genetics, the body’s immune system attacking itself, or enzymes in the body that are different from what they should be. Chemotherapy can also cause the ovaries to fail. Mothers who experience ovarian failure may experience some of the following in the short and long term:[5]

  1. Disorders of the ovaries cause mothers to experience menstrual cycle disorders and difficulty conceiving.
  2. Reduced bone density, increased risk of heart and vascular disease, increased psychological stress, and can even disrupt the nervous system.

DIAGNOSIS AND THERAPY

Diagnosis of Ovarian Failure requires special attention as many other diseases may cause irregular menstrual cycles and other hormonal disorders. Ovarian Failure can also be screened for by performing laboratory tests. Couples who are having trouble achieving pregnancy should also be examined together to see if there are contributing factors from both sides (mother and father) to the problem. A thorough examination will be conducted by your doctor for any potential problems.[6]

If you are planning to check for a long childless condition and have symptoms as above, you can make a reservation in advance on the Sobat Bunda application.
