Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common causes resulting in infertility in women who are usually in productive or fertile age. In addition, PCOS also affects various aspects of the mother, especially can affect health even after fertile age. Worldwide, 4% – 21% of mothers are affected by PCOS. While the cause of PCOS is still unclear, it is suspected that genetic disorders and environmental influences play a role[1].
It is estimated that infertility is experienced by 40% of mothers with PCOS, and about 80% of mothers whose infertility is caused by egg problems have PCOS. In addition to infertility, PCOS also causes other problems such as metabolic disorders (obesity, sugar sickness), heart and blood vessel diseases, and even psychological effects (anxiety, depression, decreased quality of life).[1] Infertility itself is a fertility disorder characterized by the failure to get pregnant in more than 12 months even though a couple have had regular unprotected intercourse.[2]
WHAT GIVES?
The course of PCOS disease is still unclear, but it has been estimated that some processes that result are direct results from the effects caused by PCOS itself. Mothers who experience PCOS may experience the following:[3-5]
- Disruption of the egg cells, which may cause you to experience menstrual cycle disorders and difficulty getting pregnant.
- You may experience symptoms of eating and drinking disorders, and may feel continuously weak due to metabolic disorders caused by PCOS.
- If you are of obese stature (known as overweight), it can also cause hormonal disorders, making it more difficult for you to get pregnant.
- Thick fine hair growth in unnatural areas such as the face, neck, chest, abdomen, back, even buttocks and chest.
Apart from the various effects caused by PCOS itself, it will certainly affect your social life and affect your daily quality of life.”[3-5]
PCOS DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT
The diagnosis of PCOS requires special attention as many other diseases may cause irregular menstrual cycles and other metabolic disorders. PCOS can also be screened for by performing laboratory tests. Couples who are experiencing problems in achieving pregnancy should also be examined together to see if there are contributing factors from both parties (husband and wife) to the problem. A thorough examination will be carried out by both the husband and wife’s respective doctors[6].
If you are planning to check for a long childless condition and have symptoms as above, you can make a reservation in advance in the Sobat Bunda application. By downloading the application and making a reservation at Sobat Bunda, you can find out the estimated queue time or turn to enter the examination, so that you don’t have to wait long at the hospital.
